Mervin's Trail Bike Ride

Minister Mervyn Silva, who flagged off a cycle race in Kelaniya town this morning (Nov. 25), was later seen on a motorcycle following the cyclists and encouraging them.

Soon after the race began, he borrowed a motorcycle from a youth and rode for about four kms, giving quite a headache for his bodyguards and organizers of the race.

Prior to the race organized by Kiribathgoda Youths, the minister participated in a public rally accompanied by Chandra Rajapaksa, a younger brother of the president.

Speaking here, he said the late Dr. W. Dahanayake faced his charges alone, but the incumbent chief justice had accompanied a posse of lawyers to answer the allegations against her.

The CJ will have to help the lawyers, who are today appearing on behalf of her, and gratitude is a good thing, but if she gave rulings in gratitude, people will lose their confidence in the judiciary, said the minister.

He added that he hoped the CJ would think about that carefully.
